Broadmoor Neighborhood Opinion Survey on Jet Noise

Editor's Note:
Below is the summary of the results of a survey of residents of our Broadmoor neighborhood that was done by our neighbors  last year. The complete survey report is available on request.

(We may post a download link to the report soon.)

The survey should be considered as a response to the Tucson City Council Zoning action of October 24, 2004 that expanded the Davis Monthan Airforce Base high noise zoning contours into the Broadmoor neighborhood. More detailed information about the issues is available at www.tucsound.com and the Military Community Compatablity Committee (MC3) site http://groups.yahoo.com/group/MC3_solutions.

See also the report of the presentation by Gail Cordy, our BBVNA representative to the MC3, at the March 2006 BBVNA meeting.

From the Neighborhood Survey conducted in December, 2005, we conclude:

  •  75% of respondents identify over flights as the single biggest concern.
  • 78% of respondents rate their concerns about overflights as very / extremely concerned.
  • Residents are concerned about noise, safety & reduction in property values.
  • 79% of respondents would like our City Representatives to hold public meetings and represent our concerns with Air Force officials.
  • While we limited our study to Broadmoor-Broadway Village neighborhood, we assert that these findings can be generalized across the midtown residents.
  •  Based on our findings, we request that our elected officials:

Stop characterizing neighborhood concerns as "minority"

Conduct the public meetings necessary to develop a complete and accurate picture of concerns, and

Represent these concerns faithfully with Air Force officials.
